Sophia’s Swing into Summer Competition

June 1, 2024

Join us for a fun low pressure competition! This competition is going to be put together by our team member Sophia as part of her senior project, and will feature lots of creative ideas that you wouldn’t normally see in a competition. It will be a great competition for first-time competitors, with very forgiving rules for the Beginner and Intermediate course levels. Since this is a non-league competition, we get to make the rules on this one! It will be a two-stage competition with a speed course and a longer technical challenge course. The speed course will act as the seeding round for the technical course. Your placements on BOTH courses will count toward your overall placement. The divisions are as follows, with your age as of June 1 determining your division:

Course 1 (Beginner Level)

  • 6-8 female
  • 6-8 male
  • 9-12 female
  • 9-12 male

Course 2 (Intermediate Level)

  • 13-15 female
  • 13-15 male
  • 16-39 female
  • 16-39 male
  • Masters 40+ female
  • Masters 40+ male

Course 3 (Advanced Level)

  • Elite female (open to ages 13+)
  • Elite male (ages 13+)

For those looking for extra challenge, anyone in the Course 1 or Course 2 divisions can “age up” to the next division. For example, if you’re a 12 year old, but would rather compete on Course 2, then you can register for the 13-15 division. The Advanced level Course 3 is open to ages 13 and up.

RULES

Course 1 and Course 2 Rules

  • Speed Course: 1 point is awarded for each obstacle completed, with unlimited fails allowed.
  • Challenge Course: 1 point is awarded for each obstacle completed, with unlimited fails allowed. If an obstacle is failed, you must retry that obstacle. If you fail the retry, then you continue to the next obstacle with no further penalty or retries allowed on that obstacle. The timer is paused when resetting the obstacle for your retry.

Course 3 Rules

  • Speed Course: 1 point is awarded for each obstacle completed. Scored run is ended after first fail.
  • Challenge Course: 1 point is awarded for each obstacle completed, with two fails allowed per obstacle and six total fails allowed on the entire course. If an obstacle is failed, you must retry that obstacle. You may not progress to the next obstacle until the obstacle is cleared. If the same obstacle is failed three times, then your scored run is over. The timer WILL NOT be paused when resetting the obstacle for your retry. You will need to wait until the obstacle is fully reset and the ref gives you the go-ahead.

AWARDS

Awards will be given to top three finishers in each division.
